About Us

Owner Adam Barr is a proud native of Calvert County. Growing up with deep roots in the community, Adam attended St. Leonard Elementary School, Southern Middle School, Calvert High School, and the Calvert Career Center (now known as the Calvert Career and Technology Academy), eventually graduating from Patuxent High School. Starting in kindergarten, Adam's parents proudly told everyone that whenever he was asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, his answer was always the same: a school bus driver.

Adam's journey in transportation started early. He took advantage of an offer for free CDL training through CCPS and began working with CCPS contractors on routes, trips, and sub work, becoming a dedicated school bus driver at just 22 years old. As his experience grew, Adam realized he didn't want to just drive a school bus—he wanted to become a school bus contractor. After years of unsuccessful attempts to become a contractor in Calvert, Adam actively sought out exactly what it would take to achieve that goal. This drive led him to create Barr Transportation in 2019. In the early years, the company focused on providing reliable transportation for field trips, charters, and weddings. By 2022, Adam's dedication paid off when he secured his first official route contract in Baltimore. Based in Elkridge, Maryland, Barr Transportation successfully grew to run routes for local private schools, as well as for the public school systems in Baltimore and Howard counties.

Despite building a thriving business up north, Adam’s ultimate goal was always to become a contractor for his home county's Calvert County Public Schools. Now, he is taking his industry experience and expanding his services back to the community he has always considered home. To achieve this, Adam created Barr Bus Service (BBS) specifically to serve Calvert County Public Schools. While Barr Transportation and Barr Bus Service are distinct companies, they are proudly united under the same high standards and leadership as part of the "TeamBarr" family.

Today, that lifelong commitment and local pride have become a reality: Barr Bus Service is thrilled to announce we are officially operating 2 routes for CCPS starting in the 2026-2027 school year!
